Training workshop on potential for the introduction of sustainable potato varieties in Uganda(sarpo)

The Continuing Agricultural Education Center is hosting a 4days training based on introduction of sustainable potato varieties in Uganda especially irish potatoes. There are 16 participants involved including potato researchers, potato farmers and students coming from western(kabale) and eastern Uganda. The workshop is designed to increase the impact of research results from Bangor University in controlling the main disease of potato(irish) which is “late blight disease” in Uganda.

The core objective is to make participants aware of the new late blight resistant potato breed at Bangor University in the UK and to exchange knowledge on the potato as an increasingly useful crop in Uganda. It is hoped that participants can spread the news about the new resistant sarpo varieties of potato and assist in the introduction of these varieties in Uganda.
